How do I connect my Wise account with DATEV?

Connecting your Wise Business account with DATEV allows your currency transactions to automatically sync to DATEV Rechteverwaltung. This saves you time on manual data entry and helps keep your multi-currency bookkeeping up to date.

The connection is securely facilitated by Chift, which acts as an intermediary to ensure reliable, automated data transfer between Wise and DATEV.

Prerequisites

Before you start we recommend getting following information from your tax advisor or DATEV first.

DATEV Cloud Sync

  • Client number (Mandantennummer)

  • Consultant number (Beraternummer)

  • General ledger account length (usually 4–8 characters)

  • Chart of accounts (SKR 03 or SKR 04)

  • Fiscal year start date

You’ll also need these DATEV licences:

  • Rechnungswesen

  • Buchungsdatenservice (needs to be activated on a company level)

  • Unternehmen Online (DUO)

  • Belegbilderservice (needs to be activated on a company level)

You can check licences in DATEV Arbeitsplatz > Lizenzverwaltung, or ask your tax advisor.

How do I connect my Wise account with DATEV?

1. Prepare your account or invite your accountant

To connect to accounting software, you need specific permissions. If you are the business owner, you can do this yourself.

If you have an external bookkeeper or accountant, you can invite them to your Wise business account as a team member. You control exactly what they can see and do:

  1. Go to Team

  2. Select Add Team Member.

  3. Grant them the Manage software integrations and tools permission.

2. Initiate the connection on Wise

  1. Log in to your Wise Business account.

  2. Select your business name in the top corner.

  3. Go to Connect and manage apps

  4. Select DATEV and select your connection method.

3. Configure the connection

We recommend using the Online connection for a smoother experience (you can also use the DATEV Desktop connection).

Enter your DATEV details (from the Prerequisites section above):

  • Client number

  • Consultant number

  • General ledger account length

  • Chart of accounts

  • Fiscal year start date

To find the account length navigate to DUO > My applications > Stammdaten > Grunddaten Rechnungswesen > Sachkontenlänge

Click Authorise and log in using your preferred DATEV method.

4. Finish setup in Wise

Once redirected back to Wise:

  1. Select the DATEV account (Konto) for each Wise currency

  2. Choose a clearing account (Verrechnungskonto) — used for uncategorised entries - this needs to be different from the accounts you chose for Wise currencies

  3. Select your sync start date (when imports begin)

Optional:

Upload your DATEV chart of accounts (CSV) if you would prefer not to manually enter the accounts for each currency.

You can find it in DATEV under Stammdaten > Mandantendaten Rechnungswesen > Grunddaten Rechnungswesen —or ask your tax advisor.

Here are the instructions on how to configure downloading the file.

What happens if I open a new currency in Wise?

If you open a new currency balance (e.g., USD) in your Wise account after setting up the connection, you will need to update your settings to include it. Go to your integration settings and ensure that you find the currency that you added and fill in the relevant chart of accounts code from DATEV. It’s usually 4-5 digits and unique for each of your bank accounts.
