Verifying your Employer Identification Number (EIN)

To issue a Wise Business debit card in the US, we need to verify your business’ Employer Identification Number, or EIN.

What is an EIN?

An EIN is an IRS-issued number that allows us to confirm the business entity. It’s sometimes known as a Federal Tax Identification Number. It’s 9 digits long, usually in this format: XX-XXXXXXX.

Some types of business don’t need an EIN, so please check with the IRS to confirm if your business is exempt.

What documents do you accept as proof of EIN?

You need to provide a document that has been filed and returned to you by the IRS. The most common are:

  • Form 147c

  • Form SS-4

The name of the business and the EIN shown on your document must match the details on your Wise Business account. You can update your EIN in the business details section of your account.

We can accept a high quality scan or photo, or a PDF of your document. If the image is not high enough quality, we’ll ask you to send it again.

In the majority of cases, verification takes a maximum of 2 working days.
