Understanding Wise's position on gambling

Gambling is restricted or even banned in several countries based on local laws and regulations.

Those countries are: the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Israel, Norway, Japan, Romania, Singapore, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates.

Any transfers related to gambling must not involve these countries — it is against our Acceptable Use Policy.

Even in countries where gambling is allowed, companies that provide gambling services often require a licence to offer you their services there.

What is a gambling-related transfer?

A transfer related to gambling could mean:

  • Making payments to online gambling businesses and casinos

  • Receiving money from businesses in the gambling industry

  • Payments to and from businesses whose activity is directly connected to gambling — for example, poker coaching, IT support to casinos and gambling sites

  • Payments between individuals in connection with gambling

What does this mean for my Wise account?

You can only make and receive transfers related to gambling if:

  • You're not residing in the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Israel, Norway, Japan, Romania, Singapore, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates.

  • The sender and recipient of the gambling transfer are not located in any of the countries listed above

  • The sender bank or recipient bank is not located in any of the countries listed above

  • The currency sent or received in the gambling transfer doesn't belong to any of the countries listed above. Therefore, gambling transfers involving USD, CAD, IDR, ILS, NOK, JPN, RON, SGD, TRY and AED are not allowed

  • The gambling provider involved in the transfer is licensed in the country in which your account is registered

This is not an exclusive list — we'll cancel or return any payments that exceed our risk tolerance, and we may sometimes close accounts. It’s part of the legal and regulatory responsibilities we have as a financial institution.

What if I want to use Wise for my business?

We don’t support any business in any part of the world that's involved in gambling. We may close your business account as a result.

This includes, for example, business activities such as:

  • Lotteries

  • Fantasy sports with cash prizes

  • Games of chance with cash prizes

  • Sales of in-game currencies by unauthorised vendors

  • Affiliate marketing for gambling businesses
