How do Payment Approvals work?

Payment approvals help businesses control their payments on Wise. Payment approvals are only available in regions where you can open balances and hold money.

How does it work?

Team members whose payments need approval will be able to set up payments, but the payment won’t be funded or completed until it’s approved by another team member.

You can set up a payment approval for any team member with permission to set up or make payments via transfer.

Setting permissions for your team

For each team member, you can choose whether all their payments should require approval, or just those above a certain amount.

You can also choose for payments to require approval by 1 or 2 people. The team member approving a payment can be anyone with permission to approve payments created by other team members.

Team members can’t approve their own payments.

How to approve or reject payments

Once a team member sets up a payment that needs approval, a different team member that has permission to approve payments (approver), will be automatically notified to review it.

They can manually view the payment under Tasks from Home.

Here's an example:

  1. A team member sets up a payment that requires approval.

  2. The approver will be automatically notified.

  3. They'll review the payment and approve or reject it.

  4. If approved, the payment can be funded and completed.

After a payment is approved or rejected, it'll appear with your other payments in the Activity feed.

What happens if I don't review the payment?

If you don't approve or reject the payment within 7-10 days the payment will automatically be cancelled. The exact timeframe for auto-cancellation depends on the source currency.

I'm not receiving the automatic notifications to approve payments

Make sure that you have Transfers and balances notifications turned on to receive approval-related notifications.
