Confirming your identity with a photo of your ID and a selfie

Every customer needs to be verified at some stage when using Wise. This is how we make sure we're safe and secure for all our customers, and stay compliant with anti-money laundering rules. Sometimes, this procedure includes taking pictures of your document and face with your device. This is sometimes the only proof we can accept, but we’ll surely let you know if that’s the case. So make sure you have the Wise app downloaded to your phone or tablet when going through this flow.

Once the verification flow starts, it's important that you don't exit before it's completed.

How to take the photos

  • Take the photos in a room with enough light

  • Select the highest quality setting on your device

  • Have your ID on hand

  • Follow the instructions on screen

  • Make sure that your whole document is in the frame, as well as your face — nothing can be censored

Note: Make sure to use a valid unexpired ID or we won't be able to accept it.

What if I don't have a smartphone?

If you are using the website, you have the option to verify yourself using your laptop/ computer camera. Just tell us that you don't have a smartphone by clicking on this option in the flow.

Note: This is not the same verification procedure as when you have to take a selfie with your ID in frame. The instructions will explain what we need from you exactly.
