There’s a security issue with my device. What can I do?

When you sign up for Wise or log in, you might see a message saying there’s a security issue with your device. This means your device has been modified in a way that can affect its security features. 

It’s called "rooting" on Android devices, and "jailbreaking" on iOS. When this happens, someone else could possibly access your Wise profile and other online accounts you’re using. 

We advise you to fix your device’s security features to keep it safe.

Restoring security features on your device

You can fix the security features by restoring your device to factory settings. This will return your device’s software to its original state and undo any previous changes.

Check how to:

  • Restore your Android device to factory settings

  • Restore your iOS device to factory settings

Once done, the security features should work as usual. 

Why would my device have been modified?

Some people modify their devices to get full access to the operating system. While this gives more control over how the device works, it can make it more vulnerable to security threats.

If you’ve seen a security message but didn’t modify the device yourself, it may have been done by a previous owner. It’s best to restore the security features as soon as you can.
